Last week I had the privilege of being able to attend the National MS Society’s Public Policy Conference; not only did I get to attend, I was able to lead a breakout session on Monday, titled Busting Through Stress – Finding You Inner Calm in Any Situation. Being able to lead a group through breathing and exercises to connect with themselves and find inner peace was a true gift. I hope all that attended have been able to keep some of that with them as they move back into daily life. Maybe you are doing intestine exercises, or going deep inside to find that calm place.
I have written a bit about the federal issues we advocated for in Washington DC – restoring MSRP fundings, protecting NIH research and keeping Medicaid intact. We heard many powerful stories on all issues, and overall meetings went well for our state, and hopefully others too. It’s always great walking around the Senate and House buildings – wearing orange, it’s easy to spot fellow activists.

This year, a group photo of everyone attending was taken; I hope to get other pictures of my session back soon. But, seeing this photo really makes me proud of the work we all do. And, you can see the many faces of MS — there are teachers, lawyers, authors, researchers, care givers, executives in all fields. Everyone is different, just like the disease, but we are all strong and dedicated to finding a cure and making life better for anyone living with MS.
While the legislative issues are very much in flux and up in the air for the moment, there is still so much hope – just take another look at all of the smiling faces in these two pictures. We are all doing what we can, each and every day. You can also make an impact even if you didn’t attend – call or email your legislators. Your story does matter, and they are logging every call and email right now.
Did you attend PPC? How do you feel about the impact you made? Let me know!
